MGM Motors was purchased by Mr. & Mrs. Vorster during February 1987 purely for retailing of BMW motor cars and fuel sales. Mr. Vorster, the Dealer Principal of MGM Motors took over the management of the business without any previous motor trade experience. After he obtained his BSC (Quantity Surveying) degree, he joined a firm of Quantity Surveyors in Pretoria for period of approximately two years, before acquiring the dealership. Mr. Vorster soon became a well known person in Mokopane and became the junior Businessperson of the year for the Limpopo during 1989. He was also awarded the Trophy as Mokopane's Businessperson of the year during 1990.
Mrs. Vorster not only has a secretarial and administrative background, but grew up in a family who had close ties with the motor industry. Her father, Mr. Meyer, managed the Toyota Dealership in Mokopane for a number of years and he was also a shareholder in MGM Motors, before the couple's acquisition of the dealership. During the first few years of operation, Mrs. Vorster was responsible for the daily operation of the business and to spend more time at home, after the birth of their third child.
In 1995 MGM Motors were awarded the Land Rover dealership in Mokopane after which they grew steadily to a thriving dealer group. In 2001 they also extended their reach in the motor industry by acquiring the Land Rover dealership in Polokwane.
Mrs. Vorster rejoins the business again in 2001, and in the same year, Volvo awards franchises to MGM Motors in Mokopane & Polokwane. The couple resides in Mokopane until 2002 when they relocate to Polokwane.
In 2007 the company gets awarded the Peugeot dealership in Polokwane.
